Internet Lockups
Internet access on the router is dead and router locks up.
Report from Kevin McBride:
- Inability to reach web interface following a “lock up”.
- Following a lock up, local clients can be accessed but not the net.
- Must power cycle every 48 hours or so to regain full functionality.
This is unacceptable for a router with this price tag and I did not have these problems with my D-Link WBR2310, same setup, same network, same devices.
Affect DLink-ed Routers:
DIR-855
DIR-825 Rev A
DGL-4500
DIR-855 Firmware:
I installed the new firmware a few days ago and it has not corrected my disconnection problems. Every other day or so, the router stops responding and I have to power cycle it to get it working again. I cannot even reach the web interface when this happens. However, I am able to reach other clients on my network. All is well once it has been unplugged and restarted.
DIR-825 Firmware:
Appeared in 1.11NA firmware and still present in 1.12NA
DGL-4500 Firmware:
All version beyond 1.16b03 North America
Workaround:
Some people have been reporting success with disabling the DNS Relay feature (if you can call it a feature).
Well it’s now been 25 day’s since installing the 1.23NA FW and checking the (always connected)in the setup window and I have had no issues with dropped internet connectivity! Thanks again DLink’ed Router!
Hi there. Thought I should do my duty and post an update.
Since I got everything working (using DynDNS instead of Virgin DNS – see above).
Advanced DNS is OFF
DNS relay is OFF
The router has been stable and has not dropped so far (about 9 days).
Firmware WW123B5
Cheers,
PS. I was not using the DynDNS and Advanced DNS etc. I was just using all defaults at that time.
Only since we started talking did I switch off Advanced DNS and Relay and change the DNS from the auto (DLINK) ones. Sorry for the confusion.
I have however, always had Dynamic DNS enabled but only for WOL.
Hi again, Can’t understand why is it labelled “DIR855A2_FW123EUb02″ very odd. (Obviously not disputing what you are saying but just wondering why they would do that). Also in the FTP folder they sent is 121b03EU. Very odd.
I will indeed stick to the WW as you recommend thanks.
And good point about the DynDNS servers – was just kind of trying it out really and I guess it would be wise to stick to the Virgin defaults, even if I do have to enter them manually.
Cheers again,
Hi again, I feel like such an idiot, I was looking at the wrong file. Yes it is version 1.23B02 but it is build 172 which is older than the WW firmware.
That’s what happens when we are typing
too fast eh? Notice all my typos in the last few threads. Shame on us. LOL.
But even so, sticking to WW then. Cool.
You should move this to blog post there is lots of good info here.
Hi there,
1. Sorry I may have got the name in the mail wrong – but have mailed the FW to gmail address above. Any info would be great.
2. Yes DynDNS – I have had an account with them for a looong time and decided to go back to their DNS service: 216.146.35.35 / 216.146.36.36. I also use them for my Dynamic DNS so that i can use WOL over internet.(That took a bit of figuring out too but works perfectly now – if you want me to post up how to do that on this router please feel free and tell me where to post.).
3. Yup 100% sure. Cleared the primary and secondary DNS – rebooted – all zeros.
4. I tried to log in and reply to support but seems my login won’t work, maybe user error though so i will try again and let them know.
Regards,
Phil.
Hey there; got your email, they sent you 1.21B03EU (build 168) which is older than 1.23B05WW (build 174).
Stick with the WW firmware. Strange that they sent you this firmware, I cannot understand what will be achieved by testing how old firmware.
I see what you mean now about DynDNS, be careful with using offshore DNS servers as they disrupt servers that use DNS to determine what region you are in.
Eg. Akamia servers use your DNS resolution to determine the closest server to download from.
Dlink also stupidly put something like this in place with Advanced DNS server setting and enabled it by default, where they pointed all of the DLink routers to the DLink DNS servers in the US and guess what happened, DLink couldn’t handle the traffic and brought all the routers down.
Using DynDNS and enabling Advanced DNS on the router would have most likely caused you all sorts of problems with DynDNS.
Just to add that I have now had a response from Dlink Service. They sent me a link to the EU 1.23 Beta 2 Firmware. I am already using WW 1.23 Beta 5. So I don’t think I will bother upgrading (that;s if it would even be possible without a lot of messing about).
I got everything working using DynDNS instead of Virgin DNS. And Advanced DNS is off as is DNS relay. I still had to enter the DNS IPs manually incidentally (even the Virgin ones were not entered automatically.
So as mentioned, I will just see now if the router stays up for more than a few days.
Also wanted to say thank ever so much for the help once again.
Final question (although please don;t rush to answer this):
Would there be any point in changing firmware from 1.23 Beta 5 WW down to 1.23 Beta 2 EU (sent by Dlink Tech)?
Thanks again.
Where can I download that version 1.23 Beta 2 EU?
I’ll post it soon on this blog
Two things:
Firstly version numbers are not comparable between regions, so 1.23b2 EU maybe newer than b5 WW. If you email me the firmware, I will be able to tell you, email is dlinkedrouter at gmail dot com and I’ll also post it on the blog for others to use.
Secondly, DynDNS is not the same as Dynamic DNS just in case you weren’t sure but I assume you meant the later. Interesting that the dns servers don’t come down automatically and that you have to enter it manually. Clearly there is an incompatibility with virgin media and the router. If the EU firmware is newer, it “may” fix it. This is a fundamental flaw in the firmware if it is the case and I would keep those douche bags at dlink informed of your results as they should fix this, if they can be bothered.
Just to be certain, when you clear the dns values and you go to the status page, you see see 0.0.0.0 against the the dns field?
Thanks ever so much for the info. I do understand most but was struggling with the DNS relay. I had to add teh Virgin DNS manually but then turned off DNS Relay and also had to remove and re-add the settings to everyone’s iPhones and iPads. Now I have relay off and Advanced DNS off. So we will see how long the router stands up without – well falling down lol. I may try and remove the manually entered Virgin DNS but as it is working I guess there is no real need.
Thanks a ton for your very helpful post. I hope it will help others too.
Same trouble here. Not as frequent but every week or so – router drops. No internet, no WIFI, cannot access router config page at all.
Sometimes cannot be solved by power cycle – have to reset router and re-enter all settings – what a PITA.
1.23FW with Virgin Media. Plugging direct to Cable Modem restores internet so I can post to support etc. (and verify working internet).
Finally took 20 minutes to register and go through the whole stupid long winded process of registering for support and creating a ticket. (You can’t even copy and paste your serial number, once entered, even though it asks for it after you have registered your product).
I personally think this may be hardware related. I don’t think any amount of firmware and certainly not a support person conversation will resolve it.
I hope someone can prove me wrong.
At a guess, I think you NVRAM is faulty and therefor you lose your settings.
Having said that, is your router set to “connect on demand” in the WAN settings?
If so, try “always connected”.
Hi and thanks. It doesn’t lose settings as such it just locks up. Also my connection is always on – “Connect on demand” is not available with DHCP connection. Thanks anyway.
Hi and thanks. It doesn’t lose settings as such, just locks up. Also my connection is always on as “connect on demand” is not available with DHCP enabled (as I have it). Thanks anyway.
just out of interest, do you have “Enable Advanced DNS Service” enabled?
If so, disable the crap. It messes up a lot as the clowns at DLink didn’t think about those who live outside of NA using NA DNS servers and the impact it would have.
Thanks again, I have done that. In fact i tried that before so I could disable DNS relay but my whole network went down. It may need the relay? Or maybe I just entered the wrong dns addresses. i have left relay enabled now and added the Virgin dns and all is working fine. I’ll keep you posted if it fails again.
I must admit I am not entirely sire why disabling the relay causes failure but i don’t really understand what it does. LOL.
Cheers again,
Ok, the dns relay just allows the rooter to cache address/ip bindings rather than having re-query the dns servers. I think it does this by functioning as a proxy for dns request.
As far as what a dns server is, well firstly, ip addresses are what uniquely identify a connection to a network. However, in your web browser, you do not type in ip addresses, you type in domain names like “stupid.dlink.com” and yet you can connect to dlinks web server on the Internet network. Basically a dns server receives requests from networked computers that are asking for the ip address of a domain name and either it returns the ip address for the domain or returns the address of another domain name server (dns) higher up in the hierarchy that might know about the domain name as as each dns doesn’t store all the domain name/ip pairs available on the Internet. So you can see the advantages of maintain a cache on the router as it speeds up resolution of request. The os should also cache but that is lost when you turn off you computer.
I won’t go into why your ip address is not unique and yet you connect to the Internet as I would have to explain how you router works first. Maybe I put a post up on it. By the the idiots at dlink call their routers NAT routers even though the are not, they are actually NAPT routers but are too stupid to know the fundamental difference between them, it is a surprise they haven’t been fined yet for false advertising.
Important note: if you have dhcp on the wan connection then you shouldn’t need to enter the dns settings, it should come down automatically. Remove the settings and reboot the router and then see in your summary page if the dns ip addresses for virgin are their! I assume you are in the UK if your ISP is virgin.
Well it’s now been 8 day’s since installing the 1.23NA FW and checking the (always connected)in the setup window and I have had no issues with dropped internet connectivity! I know it’s still early but the future looks promising! Thanks again DLink’ed Router!
Great news,
I am waiting for the poll to finish before I make a post about how to resolve these issues.
Too bad those stupid monkeys at dink couldn’t give the level of help you paid for with the router. I can’t believe they have the audacity to threaten callers with a $50 fee for their pathetic support which entails a drone who knows nothing about router configuration, reading verbatim from a knowledge base.
Yep checked it and it was set to the (on demand feature). It has now been changed to always connected. Thanks again!
Thank you DLink’ed Router! I just finished up loading 1.23NA. I hope and pray this will resolve the internet drop out issue. I will keep the board updated with my results.
Please Help!!! My DIR-855 router is still dropping my DSL internet about every other day. As soon as I unplug the router and plug it back in all is good for another 36 to 48 hrs. I’m currently running FW V1.21NA which D-Links states is the latest firmware. I noticed there are a couple of newer versions on their web-site but I’m not sure if it’s even worth trying. D-Link customer support is a joke! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Definitely try to install 1.23NA, this should fix the WAN drop outs on the DIR-855
Also, if your router is set to connect on demand, change it to always connected. I have always had issues with the connect on demand feature. (DLink…. typical
I have an 855 with Hardware A2 and Firmware: 1.23NA
I’m dealing with my wireless connections doing what I call “micro drops” sometimes I just lock up for second, sometimes I lose wireless and have to get a new connection. This seems to only happen on my N 2.4 and not my Dual N 5.0 wireless connections.
I’m not using it for the router, it’s simply running at as a wireless hub.
I just turned off the DNS Relay feature to see if this works. I’ll keep you posted.
Did not work, it actualy seems to be getting worse and loosing wireless range as well.
Here is a thought. In “Setup-> Network Settings” do you have the following set:
NetBIOS node type : Broadcast only (use when no WINS servers configured)
Also, try disabling “Enable DNS Relay”
See how you go with those settings.
Dlink latest 1.22 FW update (1/21/2010)
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir855/Beta/Firmware/dir855_fw_122b04NA_
This seems to have solved my issues . . . I did have to reset the settings though, but I can live with that.
Heads up:
Dlink latest 1.22 FW update (1/21/2010)
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir855/Beta/Firmware/dir855_fw_122b04NA_HNAP_beta.zip
I have installed it and it works fine. No idea of the change log. By the way, aside from the disconnect issue, I don’t need to reboot my router anymore. However, I did have a LOT of trouble with my segregated 5GHz band until I did the latest firmware update and it seems to have reset something somewhere so my 5GHz clients can now connect.
I am really getting sick of all the problems with this router. Seriously.
On plus point with this update was that for the first time, I didn’t have to restore the configuration of the router and all settings were maintained after the firmware upgrade. Previously it would take me about 15 minutes to fix everything even though I always restored the configuration from backup since not all settings were saved.
I am running a DIR-855 Rev A2 FW 1.13EU and suffered from the reported router freeze, internet lock-out and frequent restarts of 2.4 and 5GHz wireless bands. I followed the tip to disable “DNS Relay” and after 4 days I have not experienced a router freeze or internet lockout. I do however still experience a PPPoE connection restart every 24 hours or so, but I suspect this is triggered by my ISP (Swisscom Bluewin).
I have tried to totally segregate my wireless traffic. I run 2 x 5GHz and 3 x 2.4GHz N wirelessdevices, the 2.4 GZh band is set to “N mode ony”. I have a Netopia wireless router set up as downstream AP and it is hard wired to the DIR-855 for all my “legacy”2.4GHz G devices. This setup is working fine, but I have the problem where both the 2,4 and 5 GHz bands in the DIR-855 restart – strangely, mostly both at the same time! The frequency of these restarts vary and I cannot find what the trigger is. I am “alone” on the selected wireless channels and cannot find any obvious source of interference.
Just for info, I run the following on this network: Windows 7 laptop wired, XP laptop 5 GHz, XP laptop 2.4GHz N, Vista laptop 2.4 GHz N, 2 x wired desktops, collection of Wii, PS3, PSP, QNAP server and the odd mobile device (I have 3 teenagers in the house).
Last point – I am also using dynamic DNS for my QNAP NAS device. This config settig mysteriously disappeared twice from the router config and have to be set up from scratch – has not happened for a couple of months though…
I will try the new FW 1.20EU as soon as I can find confirmation that I would be able to get back to 1.13EU without problems…
Well, I have been out for a while. I have not rebooted my router in a few weeks.
HOWEVER: I can still see tons of connection disconnects with my DSL modem. I keep seeing that the connection uptime is usually less than a hour or two on the Status page. It always resets after a while. This isn’t a problem if you are not a heavy user as you will never notice it. If you game though, that is quite problematic. Does anyone else have this problem? I have already verified that the issue is not with my DSL line.
I wish we could run DD-WRT or OpenWRT on this router, that way we wouldn’t have to deal with Dlink’s incompetence.
Well my steps fixed the 3 day meltdown problem. I have no lockups at all after I did a factory reset and then turned off both advanced dns and dns relay
I have noticed a new problem though- previously functional bit torrent traffic now refuses to work. It’s as though the bit-torrent software can’t see any trackers. I have tried torrent software on mac/pc, against a variety of torrent systems, and various torrent clients, nothing works. Furthermore if I connect a PC direct to the internet ahead of the DLINK, torrents work fine, so there’s no question the DIR-825 is screwing it up. I have tried this with settings backed up from my 1.01 firmware (so I know I have the config correct) and with factory default settings, and it doesn’t work either way.
Just a thought, is your PlugNPlay setting enabled? I think it is disabled by default which might explain it if you did a factory reset.
I am having the same issues, DIR-825 Rev A, ran v1.01 for about 6 months with few problems. Upgraded a month ago to 1.12 and have had constant problems.
Of note is the fact that the instability seems to be accelerating. At first after the upgrade, only my linux box would have issues of not resolving to the internet and dropping off the network. Now, all computers are effected and the router only remains usable for 48 hours at most. Sometimes its as little as 3 hours.
I submitted a ticket request. I’ll update the site here when I get it. I am thinking of filing a complaint with the BBB. Any here done that yet?
I have DIR-825 Rev A hardware and was running v1.01 firmware. The router was mostly reliable but from time to time the Wireless would seem to drop out. Once or twice a month maybe. I upgraded to 1.12 and then suddenly every 3 days or so my connection would die entirely. I also noticed that the router wont accept my admin password but (strangely) will let me in after 3 failed attempts.
After reading posts here I have just done the following
1) In manual internet setup, turned OFF the “advanced DNS service” which seems to make you use Dlinks DNS.
2) In setup/network settings, turned OFF the ‘enable DNS relay”. (note this is not the same as 1) above.
After rebooting the DIR-825 I had to reboot all my clients so they’d get a new DHCP lease. Each client now has my ISP DNS servers.
I’ll report back if I see any stability.
Cheers
Has anyone tried the disconnect count measuring utility from broadbandreports.com? It doesn’t work for me. It’s in the Dlink section posted as a sticky.
Am in Bahrain. Vincent, I have three laptops connecting to Exchange this way. This was never a problem before the firmware upgrade, it was fine a few months ago. The problem occurred after the update.
Nader, I have not checked the logs explicitly but I have reviewed them, I cannot tell anything from it. The reason I bought this router is because of its 5GHz N capability, why the hell should I have to force anything? I have segregated the G/2.4GHz network for legacy devices and am using N/5GHz for interference free networking. All around me are G/2.4GHz devices that interfere with the signal so I need to do things this way.
This stuff should just work without so much tinkering, maybe I should have gone with an Apple Airport!
I cannot agree with you more about how it should just work with N. But can you try to force it to just G and see if you still get the problem? Then atleast we know what is the cause of the issue.
Have a look at the wireless restarts page of my blog and it will show you what to look for in the logs to see if you are suffering from this issue.
Salam.
@ Monakh.
I do not believe the connection drop of exchange servers is due to the router. In my experiance with this (work email through a VPN connection from home) I found virus scanners on the exchange server to be the cause.
After upgrading to V1.21NABuild07 with andvanced DNS settings checked no power cycles ness yet. (50 hours now and counting). I did transferred 14 GB of data yesterday on my media center
I am more inclined to think that @Monakh is experiencing wireless disconnections which is another common issue with this firmware. This issue isn’t addressed with the current beta firmware.
@Monakh, have you checked your syslogs on the router. Does it show disconnects?
Also, try forcing the router to only use G and not N. That is where all the real problems are with this router, not G.
@ all
5 days without power cycle reboots after the fw install of 1.21NABuild07. I feel they have got it now (at least in my situation)
It looks like potentially/finally there is a fix for this issue. I am still hesitant to switch over to the firmware and still considering just waiting for the final release to settle in with other users. (Thinking about selling it with the final release and getting a Netgear 3700)
I really hope that they decide to fix wireless restarts and Dynamic DNS too because it took them a while to get this firmware out.
7 days now without the freeze. Feel they fixed it (to avoid to have a power cycle reboot due to freeze.
I will report back only when I have to power cycle again and when I got my hands on the production fw when Dlink post that
Thank you for your information and updates. I just uploaded the V1.21NA FW and applied the same DNS settings. I know it’s been a year but have you had any further issues? Thank you.
If you have a North American router, then the latest firmware is 1.23NA, otherwise, if it is any other country then use 1.23WW
1.23WW fixed a lot of the problems for me but not for everyone else
I keep getting disconnects. My Outlook keeps telling me ‘Connection to Exchange server was lost’ or ‘Connection to Exchange server has been restored’. I would never notice otherwise. There is a Dlink router connection test utility over at Broadband Reports that allows you to check how often your router has been disconnecting. I cannot make it work on mine.
I have a Netgear ReadyNAS unit and an older Dell server (running ESXi and many VMs) connected to my DIR-855 via the gigabit ports plus a Linksys VoIP box. I have four laptops, all running Windows 7 Enteprrise or Ultimate, a Wii, a Blackberry (also VoIP), a Windows Mobile phone connecting via wireless. The mobile devices are all running on the 2.4GHz band. All laptops are on the 5GHz band using wireless-N. Everything is using WPA2-PSK with AES encryption and of course my router also has a password for both the admin and user accounts.
No freezes today but the disconnects appear frequent, to the tune of several times a day. Sadly, my speed is only 1MB down and 256K up
I am in the Middle East though my router is from the US
I recall the router the disappeared for 10 minutes after I changed the DNS options. Did that happen to you, Vincent?
My router is from EU. I decided to upgrade from 1.12EU to 1.21NA after reading positive posts on this router on Tweakers. There was no indication of possible hangs / freezes or other issues. I have a 50mbit down and a 4 mbit up speed by a cable ISP (no phones)
I had no problems after doing changes to the settings.
I changed:
1. the IP of the router to 192.168.1.1 (as I have a backup router having the same settings) and
2. setting my WIFI network (both 2.4 and 5 gbit) with WPA2 security and
3. seting the router pw
4. I have ticked off the advanced DNS settings to test if that would minimize or cure the freeze (and it did not) but after loading the last 1.21NABuild07 ticked on again.
I have connected 5 computers ( 2laptops (one Windows one MAC on 5 Gb wifi) and 1 one desktop Vista Ultimate witth large and many downloads and 1 desktop running WAN games and a Linux Dreambox DM7020 (constant traffic of small codes down and up)
I am running 32 hours with no pain yet after the last action. Keep you all posted.
I am runing fine still. No power cycles reboot needed for 3 days now after the firmware upgrade to V1.21NABuild07.
Keep you posted
I am in Australia but had the WW firmware. I upgraded for CAPTCHA so that I could enable WAN access. I wanted to be able to access my router from Work but didn’t want it to be easy for others to try to use automated scripts to brute force the password.
The two main issues I noticed was that the router will slow down after heavy usage and reboot spontaneously. The rebooting was the biggest issue was I would loose connection to my QNAP nas where all my TV recordings go.
It rebooted quite a lot to make make it very noticeable.
Another less important issue I had, was that it would disable the Dynamic DNS feature on it’s own after a few days. This use to be a pain to deal with as I couldn’t get to my QNAP from work or fix the issue on the router from work once my ISP cycled my IP address. You wouldn’t know the feature was disabled until you couldn’t access it remotely anymore.
I am on ADSL2+; 24 down and 1 up but practically I get 16 down and .7 up.
Where about are you in the Middle East?
To be fair to Dlink, I don’t know if this issue has yet been fixed. All I know is that the firmware is buggy in general which makes it harder to track the issue to begin with. It is unacceptable for the router to be out of commission for ten minutes because of a mere configuration change. Let’s see how it behaves over the next few days. I don’t think the issue has been fixed yet, though. I am afraid, in their haste to fix this widespread problem, they may have introduced other bugs in the process which is totally messed up. This is why you should have customers on your side so they can work for you, rather than against you.
It seems that if you pump a lot of traffic through the router (>1GB a day), it gets affected. That’s too bad really. I have a 6 year old Viewsonic router/bridge running DD-WRT which has been rock-solid for four years because of the excellent software. It revived ailing hardware that I didn’t have use for and I use it daily with my backup Internet connection. That router cost me $29 in 2003. And my $300ish DIR-855 can’t stay stable for a week? That is FUBAR.
Yesterday I loaded the fw version 121NABuild 07 and checked teh advanced DNS setup and (automatically) th checkbox for enable DNS relay was checked. No power cycle reboots nessesary yet. But also did not transfer more than 1GB (yet). We will today… Keep you all posted.
BTW I am in the Netherlands, Amsterdam area
24 hour report:
Internet went AWOL after light usage this morning. I went ahead and unchecked the ‘Advanced DNS’ box in Manual Setup and the router went blank/invisible while it presumably rebooted–except it didn’t. It just seemed like the radios stopped broadcasting any signals for a while. Anyway, ten minutes later, there was still no Internet so I unchecked the ‘Enable DNS Relay’ box and the router rebooted which fixed the immediate issue of no Internet access which I am sure is due to the reboot and not the config changes.
This is getting ridiculous.
Had to reboor due to freeze. I did the firmware upload of 121NA07Beta after saving my settings. Loaded the fw, reboot and loaded my settings. Set the
advanced DNS setting and automatically the DNS relay was checked as well. Now I wait to see if the freeze is gone. Keep you posted
Man, have DLink done any testing at all with the firmware they posted. In the changelog contained within the firmware zip file has only one entry, “1. Corrects DNS Relay issue”.
From what you are saying, they haven’t fixed anything.
I updated the firmware, and would recommend that others wait until it hits full production. My router went AWOL for a while before coming back and of course all the settings were lost. Luckily, I had backed up the config before flashing.
After the initial hiccups though, things seem OK, but I won’t know for a week if the lockups are fixed. I will keep you all posted here. Thanks.
I have unchecked the Advanced DNS and enable DNS relay first yesterday. No reboots nessasary yet.
Next step (if the disable works OK) I will do the Firmware upgrade and enable again since according to the readme.txt the fix was for DNS relay.
I think I wait with that until it is out of Beta. Keep posted.
I have the exact same lockup issues with my DIR-855. However, I confess, I am not a heavy user (no torrents, mostly VoIP and browsing). This problem occurs with me about once a week at the rate I am going. I never used to have it, it’s a firmware related thing. It started when I flashed to 1.11NA. THAT was a bad idea! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Symptoms: Cannot access the router page, internet is down and internal network is up via wireless or wire.
Please post if any of your config changes resulted in a fix (workaround).
Did you try the beta firmware listed under links. It is 1.21 build 7. The “winners” at dlink think they have fixed the lockups.
Try that first before attempting work-arounds.
If it works, post here, don’t post on dlink forums. Let the “winners” come here where they have no control over what is posted.
I will try to do the disable DNS relay by disabling advanved DNS settings
I have exactly the same issues Kevin and tedl has listed. I am power-=down – power up the dir-855 every day in the morning
I stumbled on your site and figured I would add a comment. I too have the DIR-855 and experience the wonderful lock up almost everyday. I attempted to call tech support and as usual it was a waste of time. I was continually asked “how many lights were being displayed on the front panel”. I kept responding “there is only a power light”. In the end all they had me do was refresh my computers mac address. Obviously this hasn’t done much. I figured, if tech support doesn’t even know their own product I wouldn’t be remedying this issue anytime soon. So I finally have gotten so frustrated that I purchased an Airport extreme. At least I can use its USB connect feature unlike the Dlink shareport. It should be here on 9/15/09. Then I will have to decide what to do with my 855. It’s really a shame. I have enjoyed Dlink products for many years and have only recently experienced these wonderful issues. So what should I do with my 855 once the Airport arrives? Ebay?
I have exactly the same issues Kevin has listed. Very frustrating.
Agreed, I will open a support ticket as soon as I am able.
If anyone else is experiencing these issues, then please post a comment and I can add it to this page as a report from someone else.
Kevin, do you have support ticket numbers and details?
I do not. I have not seeked tech support through D-Link because of the feedback I have received from some of their other customers. It seems like it is a waste of time. I had my fingers crossed with the latest firmware release but it has not improved my situation.
I know how arrogant companies like this can be and if there is no ticket number, then the problem doesn’t exist.
Can you raise a ticket, don’t worry about trying to follow it through, let them do all the chasing up with you. Let them earn their wages, if they truly are customer focused (which I suspect are not) then they will work with you, not you with them to fix their mistakes.
If they do nothing, then that is just more ammunition (like in my case) for negative publicity and man am I gona give it to this company. THey have screwed with their customers for far to long and it is about time it is thrown back in their face big time.
