Dynamic DNS

When the DynDNS feature is enabled and set to xxxx.dyndns.org, it will connect and synchronize but then after a few days of successful sync’s, the router will disable the feature by itself.

DLink believes that this is not the routers fault as they say it works for them. I am able to make DynDNS continously sync flawlessly on my QNAP file server inside the LAN but the router will not.

  1. DLink’ed Router

A potential work-around for this issue is to change your router from connect on demand to always connected.

This will prevent your router from potentially picking up new IPs on a regular basis (ie every time you re-connect with the ISP).

The fewer IP updates, the fewer DynDNS updates and hence, the less chance of the router failing and disabling the DynDNS feature. You might also want to try to reduce the time between scheduled updates in the settings just so your DynDNS account doesn’t warn you of inactivity.
